Black girls are confronted with daunting and peculiar challenges as they negotiate their lives in a world that is increasingly witnessing an empathy deficit. While the experiences of black girls and women across the globe are by no means homogenous, they connected by similar cultural and structural impediments. Being a black girl is hard. Being a black girl in the West is harder, as racism and gender inequality presents additional inhibitions.

The Domestic Violence and Victims Support Unit (DOVVSU) of the Ghana Police Service has inaugurated a ‘Crises Response Centre’ at the Police Hospital in Accra for survivors of violence and abuse. The centre will offer essential services to victims of violent crimes such as physical assault, sexual assault such as rape defilement, or any circumstances which directly affect clients who report to DOVVSU.

The United Nations Population Fund (UNFPA) has supported the Abiola Bawuah Foundation, a non-governmental organisation (NGO), with educational materials for girls in some rural communities in the country.
